How to Judge the Quality of a Starch Hydrocyclone

1. Core Indicator: High-Quality Equipment Achieved by Meeting Separation Efficiency Standards
Separation efficiency directly determines the final starch purity and extraction rate, making it the core standard for judging quality.

Calculation Verification Method: Concentration calculations can directly determine the quality. After measuring the concentration of the hydrocyclone inlet, underflow, and overflow slurry, the starch recovery rate can be calculated using the material balance formula. High-quality hydrocyclones generally achieve separation efficiencies of over 95%, far exceeding the approximately 85% of traditional equipment.

Finished Product Result Verification: After processing, inspect the finished starch. Starch milk treated by high-quality hydrocyclones can have a protein content as low as 0.3%-0.4% (dry basis), with a stable starch extraction rate above 95%, and the finished starch has higher whiteness and fewer impurities.

2. Check for Compliance with Structural and Process Design
A structural design that conforms to national standards is the foundation for stable operation.

Stage Matching: Verify the number of stages according to the processed raw materials. Cereal starch requires no less than 9 stages, and potato starch requires no less than 7 stages. Insufficient stages will lead to substandard separation purity.

Structural Rationality: High-quality hydrocyclones consist of multiple stages of hydrocyclones connected in series, each stage corresponding to a different underflow concentration gradient (21°Bé for the first stage, 23°Bé for the final stage). The inlet, overflow, and underflow outlets are clearly separated, eliminating cross-contamination and leakage issues.

Compliance with National Standards: Legitimate products must comply with the national grain and oil machinery standard GB/T 25237-2010 "Grain and Oil Machinery - Starch Washing Hydrocyclones," with standardized and uniform design parameters.

3. Checking Material Abrasion Resistance to Ensure Service Life: Starch hydrocyclones are subjected to long-term high-speed slurry erosion; the abrasion resistance of the material directly determines its service life.

Qualified products use food-grade stainless steel for the main body of the hydrocyclone. The abrasion-resistant layer of the hydrocyclones must meet the following requirements: Recommended material is 1Cr17Mn6Ni5N stainless steel, with a heat treatment hardness of HB260~280. The inner surface is honed and polished, with a roughness of Ra 0.4 or higher, significantly improving abrasion resistance.

Compliance with National Standards: Legitimate products must meet the following requirements for hydrocyclone body: Inferior products typically use ordinary carbon steel or recycled plastic, which are not only easily damaged due to poor wear resistance, but may also fail to meet food hygiene requirements.
