How to Determine if the Material of a Starch Hydrocyclone is Qualified

1. First, verify the material qualification certificate (most convenient). Reputable manufacturers will provide clear material specifications for starch hydrocyclones, and those meeting industry standards are considered qualified:

According to national industry standards, the qualified material for the main body of a starch hydrocyclone is 304 stainless steel or 316 food-grade stainless steel, and the qualified material for the hydrocyclone tube is wear-resistant nylon. You can directly request the manufacturer to provide a material testing report and a certificate of conformity to confirm that the grade meets the requirements. If it is food-grade, you also need to verify whether the stainless steel material meets the safety standards for food contact materials.

Inferior products generally cannot provide a complete material testing report, or the labeled material does not match the actual material.

2. Preliminary judgment by visual inspection. Substandard materials can be quickly identified through simple visual characteristics:

Characteristics of qualified stainless steel: Smooth and flat surface, no rust, no obvious sand holes or pores, uniform and regular welds, and good surface consistency after polishing; 304 stainless steel has a silvery-white color, while 316 stainless steel has stronger corrosion resistance and no oxidation spots on the surface.

Qualified Characteristics of Hydrocyclones: Nylon hydrocyclones have a smooth, uniform surface, free from cracks, bubbles, and other defects, and exhibit moderate hardness and good wear resistance.

If the main body of the equipment shows obvious rust, a rough, uneven surface, or numerous weld burrs, it can be generally determined that the material and manufacturing process are substandard.

3. Professional Testing and Confirmation (Precise Verification)

For precise determination of the material composition, professional testing can be conducted:

Composition Spectroscopic Testing: A third-party testing agency will be commissioned to use a spectrometer to test the stainless steel composition, verifying whether the content of elements such as chromium and nickel meets the corresponding grade standards (304 stainless steel requires chromium content ≥18% and nickel content ≥8%). Meeting the composition standards indicates qualification.

Wear Resistance Testing: For nylon hydrocyclones, hardness and wear value can be tested. Qualified nylon hydrocyclones exhibit low wear and can meet the service life requirements under long-term high-speed slurry scouring.
