What are some measures to prevent starch hydrocyclone clogging?

I. Material Pretreatment: Intercepting Impurities at the Source

1. Strict Screening: Before feeding, the material must pass through a 10-20 mesh screen to effectively remove large particles such as fibers and sand.

2. Uniform Feeding: Ensure a balanced material flow rate to avoid localized high concentrations or fiber accumulation that could lead to clogging.

II. Operating Parameter Control: Maintaining System Dynamic Balance

1. Stable Pressure: Inlet pressure fluctuations should be controlled within ±0.05 MPa. Low pressure will reduce separation efficiency and easily cause clogging.

2. Concentration Matching: Adjust the feed concentration and flow rate according to the target starch slurry concentration (usually 18-22 Baume degrees) to avoid overload operation.

3. Suitable Temperature: Maintain the starch slurry temperature at 40-45℃. Low temperatures will increase viscosity and hinder flow.

4. Balanced Flow Rate: Ensure a balanced feed flow rate for each hydrocyclone to avoid overloading and idleness of some equipment.

III. Water Quality Management: Preventing Scale and Corrosion

1. Use Softened Water: The hardness of the washing water should be ≤8°dH. Hard water will cause scale formation, affecting the separation effect and potentially clogging the hydrocyclone tubes.

2. Regular Flushing: When shutting down, flush the spiral shaft and screen wall with clean water to prevent starch deposition.

IV. Standardized Operation and Maintenance: Ensuring Long-Term Equipment Health

1. Correct Start-up and Shutdown:

Shutdown Sequence: First stop the feed, close the relevant valves, then stop the pumps in sequence, and finally throttle the washing water and open the drain valve to flush the entire system.

Keep Moist: For nylon hydrocyclone tubes, keep them filled with water during shutdown to prevent the tube walls from shrinking and deforming.

2. Regular Inspection and Maintenance:

Frequently check the hydrocyclone tubes in the hydrocyclone for blockage or wear. If blockage is found, clean or replace them promptly.

Replacement Due to Wear: When the inner wall of the hydrocyclone tube, the underflow port, or the overflow port is worn beyond 0.2mm of its original diameter, it must be replaced.

Cleaning and Maintenance: If blockage is found, the hydrocyclone assembly can be removed, soaked in a 5% alkaline solution for 1-2 hours, and then thoroughly cleaned with a nylon brush and a high-pressure water gun.

V. Long-Term Benefits of Preventive Measures Adhering to the above preventive measures can bring the following significant benefits:

1. Ensure Production Continuity: Minimize unplanned downtime and improve overall equipment efficiency (OEE).

2. Improve Product Quality: Stable separation results help produce starch milk with consistent purity, concentration, and whiteness.

3. Reduce Operating Costs: Reduce the frequency of spare parts replacement (such as hydrocyclones and nozzles) and maintenance labor costs.

4. Extend Equipment Life: Standardized operation and maintenance can effectively slow down equipment wear.
